Dr. Donald Powell

“Why haven’t you retired yet, Dr. Powell?”  The simple answer is:  I love my profession and enjoy working with a wonderful animal medical health care team.  I wanted to be a veterinarian as a young farm boy; and I’ve been blessed to achieve that goal, so why stop?

Raised on a farm in southern Delaware, I was surrounded by many types of animals. The two that really grabbed my heart were a rat terrier named Nicky that I received on my 6th birthday and a Chincoteague pony named Jiffy that my parents gave to me when I was 10.  Nicky was about 15 lbs.—loyal, with the “heart” of a lion.  Jiffy lived up to her name in speed (I always rode her bareback).  If she was alive today and I jumped on her back, she would arch her neck and prance with pride.
