Dr. Allison Mayo grew up as a Navy Brat, so she moved frequently as a child.  When it was time for college, she was living in Virginia; and therefore went to Virginia Tech for her undergraduate degree (B.S. Biology, 1985).  She then attended the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, also in Blacksburg, graduating in 1989. 

Her first veterinary job was at Ridge Lake Animal Hospital in Woodbridge,Virginia; and in 1995, she became an owner of Dale City Animal Hospital and subsequently also Gunston Animal Hospital.  She sold those hospitals in 2017, staying on as a managing veterinarian.   In April 2020, she became the managing veterinarian at the newly opened Pender Veterinary Centre Manassas. 

Dr. Mayo is married and has four adult children.  Additionally, she has many dogs, cats, exotic birds and chickens.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time at her log cabin in West Virginia.  Additionally, she travels regularly to underserved countries (to date Haiti, Honduras and Guatemala) to help provide care to needy pets there.
