I have a strong interest in internal medicine, preventative care, dentistry, and exotic animal medicine.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

I enjoy spending time with my family and doing almost anything outdoors: running, hiking, skiing, or even sitting on a beach – just to name a few.

EDUCATION

I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering Sciences from the University of Florida and stayed to complete a Master of Science degree in Coastal Engineering. I later returned to school and completed my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University.

HOW I GOT HERE

It has been a winding path, but one I would not change. I cannot say I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. It was on the list – along with a pilot like my dad, a teacher like my mom, and a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. My parents are devout Redskin fans – needless to say they were delighted when that dream faded.

I majored in engineering in college. I had a brain for math and science, and loved the practical application of both of those in engineering. I also liked the challenge that an engineering degree brought, so much so, I decided to stay for a Master’s degree. I worked as a coastal engineer in Jacksonville, Florida until I married and moved to the desert.

While in school, I eagerly volunteered for midnight to 4 a.m. shifts of sitting with the ICU equine neonates, begged to dog sit whenever a friend needed it, and seriously considered taking my friend’s chocolate lab on a date function to the springs. The appreciation and love for animals was always there. That drastic change in geography gave me an opportunity to pursue my other interest and true passion, and I began working toward veterinary school. After graduation, I worked for a veterinary hospital on the Eastern shore before moving to the DC area to be closer to family.

I feel so fortunate to be a part of the veterinary community. It is a privilege to meet and care for those furry, scaly, or feathered friends and to witness the love and compassion between those friends and their families.
